Front-End Development for a State Leadership Institution Website

Client: University of North Georgia
Agency: VisionPoint Marketing
Role: Senior Web Developer

Overview

As part of my role at VisionPoint Marketing, I collaborated with designers, UX specialists, and content strategists to develop the front-end experience for the University of North Georgia’s flagship website (UNG.edu). The goal of the project was to elevate the institution’s digital presence to match its dual identity as both a State Leadership Institution and The Military College of Georgia, while ensuring accessibility, performance, and maintainability across a large-scale WordPress implementation.

My Contributions

  • Front-End Architecture:
Implemented a component-based theme architecture leveraging Blade, Laravel Jigsaw, Laravel Mix, SASS and more. This modular system allowed for flexible page composition and reusable design patterns, drastically improving content management efficiency.
  • Responsive UI Development:
Translated high-fidelity Figma/Adobe XD mockups into fully responsive, production-ready layouts using Bootstrap 5, SASS, and Laravel Mix. Special focus was placed on maintaining design consistency across diverse viewport sizes and devices.
  • Accessibility (WCAG 2.1):
Ensured compliance through proper semantic markup, ARIA labeling, and extensive testing with axe DevTools and Lighthouse. This helped the university meet state accessibility requirements for public institutions.
  • Collaboration & QA:
Worked in an agile environment with QA specialists and project managers to test, document, and deploy the site across multiple environments.

Technologies Used

Blade, Bootstrap 5, SASS, Laravel Mix, JavaScript (ES6), Git / GitHub, Lighthouse, axe DevTools, Laravel Jigsaw (Flat file static elements), and more.
